LittleLegends is Back from the dead!

Hooray – I have finally fixed this blog so I am officially back!

Things have been very quiet because first the main site broke and then I managed to break the blog when I tried to fix the site myself (oops). Anyway, it has become painfully obvious that I don’t have the technical skills to fix the main site so I have decided it is time to bring in an expert. Hopefully everything will be back to normal in the near future.

It is great to be able to post again after just over a year of being absent … so watch this place as I will now be posting more regularly.

Littlelegends is having Server Problems :(

Sorry about the hiccups at Littlelegends recently. Our host decided to migrate Littlelegends to another server and this means that the majority of the site is not working :(

We are working with them to sort it out as soon as possible!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I can’t believe another year has gone by and it will soon be 2009. This just a quick message to say thank you to everyone who has supported the site and contributed via adding places and commenting. This is what Littlelegends is all about.

So, what’s in store for 2009? Well, there is a plan underway and as soon as the groundwork has been set I will let you know a bit more. There is no point ruining the surprise ;)

Happy holiday!

Season’s Greetings from LittleLegends

When I was growing up, Val Doonican was a key part of Christmas. Not a great part, but a key part none the less. He always seemed to be on TV just before Raiders of the Lost Ark, or Morecambe and Wise. Is there an equivalent of Big Val nowadays?

Happy Christmas everyone, and best wishes for the New Year! ;)

Blimey!

Amazing what a bit of elbow grease, a shoestring budget and some fantastic parents can do! :)

FrostFireBuzz.com

“have put together a list of the most promising and exciting Internet Startups from the Europe.”

And we’re in it. When I say we, I mean Vicky, me and everyone who’s taken the time to add their favourite places or comment.

Thanks – and do please keep letting us know how we can make LL more useful to you.

LittleLegends: Keeping things out in the open

I’ve just been told that the proprietor of one of our listings has been prosecuted and sentenced. The owner

“falsely described two holiday rental properties near Ross on Wye namely Brynheulog as having a ‘Tourist Board 4*’ rating and the ‘Old Limekilns / Old Kiln’ as having an ‘AA 4* rating’, which she knew to be false. Numerous complaints were also made about her attitude and behaviour to guests.”

Rosa, who was kind enough to let us know the situation, said that

“I do not think it is in anybody’s interests to promote this person to the public.”

I very much agree, and as I see it there are two ways for us to deal with this.

The first is simply to delete the entry. This way nobody looking at Little Legends finds the place, and so nobody gets harmed.

That’s fine, just as long as people’s only way of finding out about either of the two “holiday homes” is through us. Pretty much everyone I know, though, uses one or more points of reference when looking things up online.

The second way is to keep the listing, but add comments and ratings to warn people of the situation. And this is what we’ve opted for.

This way, hopefully, the information is out in the open, echoing the Herefordshire site’s news about the holiday homes. And this way, hopefully, people stand a slightly better chance of avoiding disappointment and worse on their holidays.

There may well be better ways of dealing with this, though, or I may have chosen the wrong option. Do please let us know what you think, though. At root, we’re trying to help parents and families, and so if you think what we’ve done is misguided, then please help us steer on to the right track.

Win £100 Cash!

If you are interested in winning £100 cash then all you need to do is to sign up to Little Legends and start adding comments about places for kids you have been to.

The person to have added the BEST COMMENT by 12pm on 31st July will be the winner.

The rules are as follows:

1) You must register at the site and enter the first section of your postcode.

2) Your opinions must appear in the comments section of the place listing, rather than the notes section.

3) Your comment must be a minimum of 30 words and express some useful information specific to the place you are talking about. So, just saying “this place is great” will not count. Positive and negative comments are acceptable but no offensive remarks are allowed.

4) You must have direct knowledge of the place you are commenting on.

5) You can find places by searching by keyword or postcode. However, if after carrying out a search, you cannot find the place you want to comment on, then feel free to add the place yourself.

6) If you win, you will be contacted via the e-mail address you give when you sign up, so please make sure this is correct.

7) The winner will be paid the cash via paypal, so if you don’t already have a paypal account you may need to set one up.
8) The winner will be announced here

9) The judge’s decision is final.

If you have any queries, please send me a message on the Little Legends system (NB you will need to be signed in)

Littlelegends: Online help for stressed-out mums

The following article about Little Legends appeared in the Wandsworth Borough news today:

A Wandsworth mother sick of struggling to find child-friendly locatins has set up a networking website for parents faced with a similar predicament.

Mum of three, Vicky Wood, 33, moved house two years ago and was frustrated by the difficulty of locating the best places in the borough for parents with kids in tow.

With the help of her brother, technical whizz Piers Young, she took the matter into her own hands and set up an online network for parents.

The site, called Littlelegends.biz contains profiles of more than 35,000 child-friendly services, restaurants, parks, shops, hotels , clubs and major attractions all over the UK.

Parents can now search by postcode to find the most childfriendly places in their area.

Mrs Wood, a lawyer with a six week old baby, a four year old and a five year old, said:

“We’ve had some really positive feedback.

“The social networking thing is fairly new but I think people find it really useful to be able to search for places by postcode, whether it’s a cafe you can take buggies into or a hairdresser that cuts children’s hair”.

The fast growing membership base of parents are encouraged to add their own places, comments and ratings.
