Meet the Royal Family at Madame Tussauds

Up until 6th May visitors to Madame Tussauds, London, will be able to step into Royal Bride Kate Middleton’s shoes, as her Prince Charming takes centre stage in the Royal Zone to celebrate their nuptuals.

The hugely popular figure of Prince William has been re-positioned to a more central position with plenty of room for visitors to get up close. He has also had a spruce-up to ensure he is looking his absolutely best, re-dressed in a dapper blue suit, hair trimmed and shoes smartly polished.

Prince William’s figure was created in 2005 and is featured in a special Royal area at the world famous attraction along with The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Charles, The Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Harry.

It is hoped that Royal Bride, Kate Middleton, will join the Madame Tussauds Royal Family soon after her wedding when a new figure of Prince William will also be created.

Family Days Out: Tea with a Tiger in London!

Family Day Out: Take the Kids to Tea with a Tiger in London

Copyright Judith Kerr

This family day out sounds intriguing. Many uk parents will be familiar with the book “The Tiger who Came to Tea” by Judith Kerr as well as “Mog the Forgetful Cat”. Now the V&A is bringing these books to life. Children will be able to step into Sophie’s kitchen and have tea with a life-sized tiger. Alternatively they can curl up in Mog’s basket and read their favourite Kerr book. This exciting retrospective of Judith Kerr’s work will also show original artwork, notes and sketches.

The exhibition runs from 28 May 2011 to 4 September 2011 at the V&A Museum of Childhood. I don’t think many children will be turning down this invititation to tea!

Bastille Day in Battersea Park London

I went to this event last year and if the weather is good it is great fun. This year it is taking place on Sunday 11th July from 10am until 6pm. If the weather is as good as it has been this will be a great day out in London.

So, pop along to celebrate France’s National Day by visiting the French free summer festival – the largest Bastille Day celebration outside France!

Although I remember it being a bit chaotic last year it was very entertaining and the kids loved it. This year there is a special kids’ area “allons les enfants!” with French cooking demonstration & classes and free balloons.

Vive La France!

Legoland hits Hampton Court Flower Show

On Monday 5 July Legoland Windsor’s landscape team will be making history by becoming the first theme park to exhibit at the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show. The show garden features almost 185,000 standard LEGO bricks and takes its inspiration from the park’s latest attraction, Pirates Landing which opened earlier this year.

Unlike many other exhibitors at the show, Legoland Windsor’s Pirates Landing Garden has been produced exclusively by an in-house team and is the result of a creative collaboration between the Landscape and Models & Animations departments.

The garden has been designed with families and young children firmly in mind. Visitors will see that a pirate ship has unexpectedly landed in the Johnson family’s garden whilst children are playing. Mischievous LEGO pirates can be spotted emerging from the undergrowth, searching for precious treasure and colourful LEGO brick models can be seen at every turn. LEGO flowers, plants, birds, butterflies and dragonflies are hidden within the planting and a contemporary curved white wall, multicoloured planters and a 3D sculpture have been used to illustrate the versatility of LEGO bricks. The plants, in hues of green, have been chosen for their foliage, texture and colour whilst other key plants create highlights and give a theatrical feel to the garden.

Visitors to the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show can find the Legoland Pirates Landing Garden at Stand GW5.

For the first time, the complete extant original illustrations from the book will be shown in sequence alongside the text of the story.

New Pond Zone Exhibit at London Wetland Centre

The London Wetland Centre in Barnes has a new pond zone, which opens in July, and it will feature interactive games, a trip down a plughole, and underwater cameras, allowing you to watch fascinating aquatic creatures in their natural habitat.

The zone aims to demonstrate why wetlands are important and how you can help to protect them.

An eight metre length of real sewer pipe (which has never been used for its intended purpose!) will take you on a journey to discover what happens to the waste water when it leaves your home.

This exciting new interactive wetland zone also includes a pond safari which gives you the chance to see pond life up close using an underwater camera that you can operate yourself! Who knows what you might spot, from the flash of a perch as he zooms by to a water vole’s toes paddling through the water above…

And the latest technology is being used in a stunning new digital pond that features a photo-realistic interactive floor depicting a number of different types of wetland habitats such as ponds, lilies and pools. As you walk around the floor you’ll create ripples in the ‘water’ and will be able to control games such as seeing a dragonfly nymph’s lifecycle and microscopic bugs’ behaviour.

The new pond zone has been funded by Thames Water.
