Party Bags

I was reading Becoming Domestic’s post on how to host a 4 year old’s birthday party and it reminded me that I have to remember to buy party bags.

This is the first time I have given one of my children a big party and I have opted for the safety of a ball park. At least that means my house won’t be trashed.

Now I am wondering what I should put in the party bags. Sweets seem to be frowned upon these days, so some ideas for filling those bags are as follows:

1. Some seeds for growing flowers
2. A book (The Book People sell packs of 10 to 12 assorted books for different ages)
3. Bubbles
4. Crayons / Pencils
5. Small Torches
6. A small figurine
7. Stickers
8. Polaroids of the party
9. Balloons
10. Keyring or Bracelet
11. Marbles
12. Notebooks / Colouring books

Alternatively, you might choose to avoid the whole “party bag” scene altogether. One way of doing this is to have a creative party where kids make things eg painting ceramics.

    Nice to see you are avoiding those haribos. I always think a party at home is best, although it is harder work. as far as party bags i have used http://www.ethicalpartybags.com All their bags and toys are Fairly Traded and Recycled, so at least you are avoiding all that plastic going into landfill.

    Or you could try The Little Things – they sell party bags filled with quality gifts that children will actually want to keep and there’s not a sweet in sight. Good value too.
